Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager left Saturday's game against the visiting Miami Marlins in the fifth inning after he was hit by a pitch in the right hand.
Test results after Saturday's 7-0 victory over the Marlins revealed that he fractured his hand.
"He's in some pain as expected," manager Dave Roberts said.
Seager, who has been heating up after a slow stretch when the Dodgers were struggling earlier this month, was batting .391 with an .826 OPS and four RBIs in the five games before Saturday.
Seager was trying to check his swing when a 90-mph sinker from Marlins right-hander Ross Detwiler hit him in the side of the hand above his right pinky finger. He doubled over in pain near home plate, started to progress toward first base then immediately left the game.
Sheldon Neuse replaced Seager on the bases and took the field in the top of the sixth at second base while Gavin Lux moved from second to shortstop.
The Dodgers ran their winning streak to four games, all to start their current homestand, following a stretch where they went 5-15, including a 2-8 three-city road trip.
Seager, the 2020 World Series MVP, is batting .265 this season with four home runs and 22 RBIs.
