BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil registered 578 more COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 550,502, the health ministry said on Monday.
Meanwhile, the total caseload rose to 19,707,662 after 18,999 new cases were detected.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina registered 12,555 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the national count to 4,859,170, the country's health ministry said.
The ministry said 384 more deaths were reported, bringing the national death toll to 104,105.

PHNOM PENH -- A Cambodian scholar on Monday called on some Western countries not to politicize the COVID-19 origin-tracing issue, saying that any origin-tracing should be scientific, not political.
"Virus origin-tracing is a scientific issue, which can only be determined by scientists, not politicians," Chea Munyrith, president of the Cambodian Chinese Evolution Researcher Association, said in an article published on the Fresh News website.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 1,365 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Monday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 191,531.
The daily caseload was slightly up from 1,318 in the prior day, hovering above 1,000 for 21 straight days. The daily average tally for the past week was 1,579.

NANJING -- East China's Jiangsu Province on Monday reported 31 locally transmitted confirmed cases of COVID-19, all registered in the provincial capital Nanjing, local authorities said Tuesday.
Seven of the cases were previously categorized as asymptomatic carriers, the provincial health commission added.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Monday registered 16,809 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 5,618,417, according to its health ministry.
The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 63 to 50,997, while 5,585 more people recovered in the last 24 hours.
