BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Thursday confirmed 27,844 new COVID-19 cases, raising the tally of infections in the country to 6,960,297.
The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 217 to 62,524, while 21,267 more people recovered in the last 24 hours, according to the Turkish Health Ministry.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 8,190,601 as of Thursday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union, said the death toll from the pandemic across the continent stands at 207,594.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore on Thursday reported 1,504 new cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total tally in the country to 82,860.
Of the new cases, 1,218 were in the community, 273 in migrant worker dormitories and 13 were imported cases, the Ministry of Health said in a press release.

YANGON -- The number of COVID-19 infections has risen to 453,407 in Myanmar after 1,744 new confirmed cases were reported in the past 24 hours, according to a release from the Ministry of Health on Thursday.
The release said that 77 more deaths from the coronavirus epidemic were recorded in the country, bringing the death toll to 17,343.

JERUSALEM -- The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Israel decreased by 5,822 to 69,076, the state's Ministry of Health said Thursday.
This is the first time since August 24 that the number of active cases in Israel has fallen below 70,000.

YEREVAN -- Armenia on Thursday reported 939 new COVID-19 cases, taking the national total to 255,648, according to the Ministry of Healthcare.
Data from the ministry showed that 592 more patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 237,855.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported 9,472 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including 9,465 locally transmitted and seven imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.
The new infections brought the country's total tally to 728,435, with 18,017 deaths, the ministry said.
