VIENTIANE, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government has discussed disaster preparedness, flood relief and ongoing poverty reduction efforts during the recent monthly meeting for June.
The meeting, held from Tuesday to Wednesday, discussed disaster response plans for the rainy season, focusing on flood preparedness, seed distribution, agricultural production, road repairs, irrigation, and dam water management. It noted that heavy rains have caused floods and landslides in the country, resulting in lives and property damage in some areas, Lao National Radio reported on Thursday.
The meeting also highlighted the complex and unpredictable international and regional situations.
The meeting outlined key priorities for July, including continuing national defense efforts, strengthening political foundations, reducing poverty, and securing borders and checkpoints. The government also plans to address financial challenges, fuel supply risks, and the impact of electricity price adjustments.
The meeting decided that emergency aid and recovery in flood-affected areas will be accelerated, alongside infrastructure repairs, reservoir management, and rainy season farming.
