Braden Schneider scored at the 1:51 mark of overtime to lift the New York Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday in Saint Paul, Minn.
Vincent Trocheck and Jonny Brodzinski also scored for New York, which snapped a four-game losing streak (0-2-2). Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin turned aside 26 of 28 shots.
Marcus Johansson and Frederick Gaudreau scored one goal apiece for Minnesota, which is 1-2-1 in the past four games. Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson allowed three goals on 31 shots.
Schneider charged toward the net for his decisive goal. He faked a shot from the slot, carried the puck closer to the crease and lifted a backhand shot into the top right corner of the net.
Artemi Panarin, who got an assist, was the first to greet Schneider and celebrate along the boards after the goal. The play marked Schneider's second goal in his past three games and his fifth goal of the season.
The Rangers opened the scoring with 13:15 remaining in the second period. Trocheck followed a loose puck in front of the net and punched it in.
Minnesota scored on the power play to make it 1-1 with 16:05 to go in the third period. Johansson carried the puck across the blue line, evaded a defender and snapped a shot past Shesterkin's stick side.
Less than three minutes later, the Rangers grabbed a 2-1 lead. Zac Jones slipped a drop pass to Brodzinski, who gathered the puck and ripped a low wrist shot beneath Gustavsson's glove.
The Wild battled back again with a power-play goal to make it 2-2 with 11:18 to go in the third. Gaudreau received a pass from Ryan Hartman, turned to his forehand and flipped in a shot from left of the crease.
New York won despite finishing 0-for-3 on the power play. Minnesota went 2-for-3 on the man advantage.
