The Los Angeles Dodgers started the 2025 season with a surge, sweeping their first three series to build an 8-0 record.
A key part of that success was the team's offense, which produced 45 runs, an average of nearly six per game.
Lately, though, the bats have cooled. The Dodgers have only 29 runs in their past nine games (3-6), losing the past three series.
They'll aim to turn that around when they host the last-place Colorado Rockies on Monday night in the opener of a three-game set.
The Dodgers are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
'I think that we just haven't gotten synched up offensively,' Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said. 'It's not from preparation, work. ... It's gonna happen. It's just in this last nine, 10-game stretch, it just hasn't.'
The Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani has been up and down the past few series. He went 1-for-12 against Chicago after going 6-for-13 versus the Washington Nationals, which was preceded by a 1-for-11 set against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Right-hander Dustin May (0-1, 0.82 ERA) is scheduled to start for Los Angeles on Monday. He has four career appearances (three starts) against Colorado. He has a 2.81 ERA while allowing five runs on 12 hits in those games but has yet to earn a decision.
It's been even more of a struggle offensively for the Rockies, who were outscored 16-0 in getting swept in three games by the San Diego Padres on the weekend, the first time in the Rockies' history they've been blanked in three straight games.
The Rockies have a league-low 40 runs while giving up 84, tied for second-most in the MLB behind only the Athletics (89). Colorado went 9-for-88 with just 12 baserunners against San Diego, dropping the team batting average from .243 entering the series to .218.
'For the last couple of weeks, it's been frustrating for the guys,' Colorado manager Bud Black said. 'The guys have put in the work, but it's just not translating. It's frustrating for sure.'
They have just three wins in 15 games this season and sit last in the MLB standings. Their start is tied with the 2019 team for the worst through 15 games in franchise history.
Rookie second base prospect Adael Amador will look to show off his work from Triple-A Albuquerque after getting called up Sunday. He played in the Rockies' 6-0 loss to the Padres, going 0-for-3.
After struggling in a 10-game call-up last season, Amador enjoyed a solid start in Albuquerque this season with a .275 average and an .858 on-base-plus-slugging percentage.
'I showed confidence. That was the major thing that was lacking last year,' Amador said through an interpreter. 'That's a big part of my game, having that confidence to show my abilities out there.'
Right-hander Antonio Senzatela (0-2, 5.14 ERA) will start for the Rockies on Monday. The 30-year-old is 4-6 with a 6.08 ERA in 17 appearances (15 starts) against the Dodgers.
