Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors are nowhere near common ground in contract talks, according to multiple reports.
Kuminga, a restricted free agent, has been targeted by multiple teams with sign-and-trade offers, ESPN reported.
But Golden State is holding onto the 22-year-old Kuminga for now. The seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft averaged 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season. He was limited to 47 games, coming off the bench for all but 10 starts, because of an ankle injury that sidelined him for two months.
ESPN reported on Wednesday that Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, proposed a three-year deal worth around $82 million. But according to the report, the team is standing firm on a two-year, $45 million offer with the second season structured as a team option.
The Warriors are the only team in the NBA that has yet to sign or trade for a player this offseason, as their plans are tied to Kuminga's future.
In 258 regular-season games (84 starts), Kuminga has averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Kuminga hardly saw the court for the Warriors in their first-round series upset of the Houston Rockets, but he earned more minutes in the second round against the Minnesota Timberwolves and averaged 20.8 points over the five games.
