The Indianapolis Colts received promising news on Saturday as quarterback Anthony Richardson returned to practice just two days after dislocating a finger in Indianapolis' preseason opener.
Richardson, 23, played six snaps before being sacked and injured in the first quarter of an eventual 24-16 loss at the Baltimore Ravens. The third-year pro dislocated his pinkie finger on the play and did not return to the game. He completed 2 of 3 passes for 21 yards.
X-rays did not reveal any additional extensive damage to the finger, as reported by The Athletic. Richardson made his practice return on Saturday with tape on his pinkie, although he was still able to grip and throw the football in individual and team drills.
The finger injury is another in a long line of physical setbacks during Richardson's young career since being the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 draft. He missed 17 games during his first two seasons because of injuries, which range from a concussion to ailments in his shoulder, oblique and back. He has not started more than four straight games.
For his career, Richardson has completed 50.6 percent of his passes for 2,391 yards and 11 touchdowns against 13 interceptions in 15 games. He has also been sacked 21 times and committed nine fumbles.
Indianapolis, which has kept its starting quarterback position a competition between Richardson and Daniel Jones, will host the Green Bay Packers next Saturday for its second preseason game.
