Kerry Carpenter drove in four runs, including a three-run homer, and the host Detroit Tigers rolled to a 9-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon.
Riley Greene knocked in three runs, including a two-run homer, as Detroit took two of three games during the weekend series. Gleyber Torres reached base three times while scoring twice and driving in another run.
Detroit starter Casey Mize (11-4) allowed two runs and three hits while striking out five and walking two in five innings.
Nolan Schanuel and Luis Rengifo each hit two-run homers for Los Angeles.
Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz (3-10) surrendered seven runs (six earned) and nine hits in three-plus innings.
Angels hitting coach Johnny Washington was ejected during the ninth for arguing balls and strikes.
Greene knocked in the first run of the game with a single to score Carpenter, who reached on a check-swing double. Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry followed with singles to give Detroit a 2-0 lead in the first.
The Tigers made it 3-0 in the second. Detroit loaded the bases with one out on a Trey Sweeney single and two walks. Sweeney scored on a Carpenter sacrifice fly.
The Tigers broke the game open with four runs in the fourth. Javier Baez reached on an error and moved to third on Colt Keith's single. Torres brought home Baez with a single before Carpenter launched his 21st homer over the right field wall.
Schanuel put the Angels on the board with his 10th homer -- a two-out, two-run shot in the fifth. They added another run in the sixth on Logan O'Hoppe's RBI single.
Detroit extended its lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the inning. Torres drew a walk and Greene ripped a Carson Fullmer curveball over the right field wall for his 27th homer.
Rengifo pulled the Angels within four runs when he smashed a Rafael Montero fastball over the right field wall. The two-run shot came with two out and Mike Trout on third.
