Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages each hit first-inning home runs, Mookie Betts hit a go-ahead blast in the eighth and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a three-game sweep of the visiting San Diego Padres with a 5-4 victory Sunday.
Tyler Glasnow gave up two runs over five innings and Alex Vesia (3-2) recorded the last four outs as the Dodgers entered the series with a one-game deficit to the Padres in the National League West before opening a two-game lead at the end of play Sunday.
The teams will resume their rivalry with a three-game series at San Diego that starts Friday.
Ramon Laureano hit a home run for the Padres, who had won 14 of 17 games before the start of the series but are now 2-8 against the Dodgers this season. Luis Arraez had three hits for San Diego, while right-hander Yu Darvish gave up four runs on three hits and two walks in four innings against his former club.
After the Padres rallied to tie the game 4-4 with single runs in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings, the Dodgers took the lead for good when Betts hit a home run off right-hander Robert Suarez (4-5) to lead off the bottom of the eighth.
Betts, who was in a prolonged slump at the start of the month, hit just his second home run over his past 32 games and his 13th of the season.
Shohei Ohtani singled and Betts walked to open the game for the Dodgers. Freeman hit a three-run home run, his 15th of the season and fifth since June 30 after not hitting one over the previous 23 games.
With two outs in the first, Andy Pages hit a solo home run to left-center for a 4-0 lead, his 20th.
The Padres chipped away with an RBI double from Fernando Tatis Jr. in the third inning and Laureano's home run in the fifth to draw within 4-2. It was Laureano's fourth in 15 games since he was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles at the trade deadline.
San Diego pulled within 4-3 in the sixth on an RBI double from Ryan O'Hearn, who also was acquired from the Orioles at the deadline. The Padres tied it 4-4 in the eighth on an RBI ground out from Jose Iglesias.
